A colleague of mine at Stylus Magazine started a recent review of Guy Gerber’s Late Bloomers album thusly:

Israel, huh? The most contentious country on Wikipedia is rapidly becoming a new hotspot for talented producers in techno. Considering the effects of the internet, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Amateur DJs and musicians have a greater chance than ever at downloading programs and releases that keep them up-to-date with the goings on of every microscene out there. What’s next? Heavy Metal in Baghdad?

Shlomi Aber is the other major player in the burgeoning Israeli techno scene these days, pumping out release after release of top shelf electronic music. “Blonda,” his latest, a collaboration with up-and-comer Itamar Sagi, is a big room stormer, the type of track that tears the roof off a club. In other words, a straight-up anthem. In the greand style of Border Community’s hyper-melodic trance classics, the song simply beats one corking theme into the ground, but it hardly matters when the riff is this good.

Also worth checking out is a track that I recently mentioned here on 17 Dots by Aber, “Moods.” It’s a solo joint and a more varied track, panning its steamy melody from channel to channel in the stereo spectrum. I personally prefer Valentino Kanzyani’s mix, which doesn’t pussyfoot around as much.

It looks like Aber will be having a full-length coming out in early October – and while he mentions in the press release that he’s excited to have crafted some “beautiful electronica” (oh no!), I hope that this just means more of the same from this exciting young talent.
