na: picastro!?!

Yancey and I talked this morning about all the great new records on the site today and I even mentioned to him not to overlook the new Picastro. So what does he go and do in his massive, epic, awesome new arrivals post? He forgets the new Picastro.
Can’t blame him, really. Who wants to type out the words Whore Luck, anyway? But with guests like Owen Pallett of Final Fantasy adding various instrumental work throughout and Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu singing backup on a seasick cover of the Fall’s “An Older Lover Etc,” it’s hard not to want to scream it from the rooftops: what about the new Picastro!?!
I kid. A bit. Whore Luck isn’t some sort of masterpiece, but there are masterful moments that I’d highly recommend checking out. The aforementioned cover first and foremost (called “Older Lover” here), but also the downcast down home opener, “Hortur.” (The latter sounds like what might happen if Godspeed You Black Emperor were forced at gunpoint to write a country song.) Oh. And the other stunning cover here, Roky Erickson’s “If You Have Ghosts.” The rest, honestly, I can mostly take or leave, but these three songs each come at important points in the record (beginning, middle, end), holding this fragile little thing together.
