Super. Furry. Animal.

Slow Monday? Not a chance. We’ve got new music from Super Furry Animals, Swayzak, and more…

Super Furry Animals - Hey Venus!

eMusic contributor James McNair sez:

Anything but minimalist, the band that once toured summer festivals in a refurbished tank here unpacks a sonic arsenal that includes sitar, dulcimer, and fizzing analogue synthesizer, but as always it’s the inventiveness of SFA’s arrangements that impresses most. Sussed rallentando endings; the gnarled country tropes on “Let the Wolves Howl at the Moon”; the tight-but-loose groove of “Neo Consumer” — such are the details that evince master craftsmen at work on Hey Venus!

Swayzak - Some Other Country

Everybody’s favorite dub techno dudes get a little bit darker, a bit more minimal. Richard Davis still guests on vocals (”No Sad Goodbyes”), but Swayzak also enlist Panoramabar fave Cassy as well (”Quiet Life, ” “Smile And Receive”).

Hanne Hukkelberg - Little Things

eMusic UK users have been loving Hanne Hukkelberg and her excellent Rykestrasse 68 album this year. US users can get a taste of what delicate Nordic whimsy sounds like finally, as we’ve just gotten in her North American debut Little Things today.

The Future Sound of London - The Archives – Sampler 1

These lovable scamps from the early days of album-based electronic music have been putting out a number of releases to clear out the archives of their voluminous backlog of music. As you might expect, it’s a bit hit and miss (”Head Hunter” and “Space Squids” strike me as particularly useless), but poke around as I did and you might run into some gorgeous ambient-tinged soundscapes. I’d suggest “Empires” and “Lizzard Crawl” for starters.

Jamie Anderson & Content - Body Jackin’

This isn’t the best song devoted to body jackin’, but I’ll take it. The A-side is definitely the one to stick with here.

Various Artists – King Street Sounds/ Nitegrooves Present: Classic Catalog Volume 1

Featuring the most misogynistic track of the day, Johnny Dangerous’ “Beat That Bitch (Mr. V Vibal Dub).”

Shlomi Aber – Moods feat. Lemon

Along with Guy Gerber, Aber represents the flowering of an Israeli techno sound that’s hugely assured for the length of time it’s been around. Catch ‘em while they’re both on the upswing. The original’s best.

There is a new single from Voxtrot’s latest album, the song called Firecracker, but be warned this is a radio edit so its a bit shortened. The B - side is called Honeybee so for those Voxtrotters out there scoop up the honey bee and pass on the firecracker cause you have this in the real version on the album.

    tapecollector tooth ousand.

That Hanne Hukkelberg albume is fantastic. You may think it’s impossible for someone to have a voice that sounds like candy floss until you hear Hanne.
