Lots and lots of great stuff came in over the weekend. Here are just some of the highlights…

Hydrahead Label
Jesu, Pelican, Khanate, Botch. Nuff said. For now.

Cerrone - Cerrone by Bob Sinclar
One up-and-coming French producer pays homage to a French master by mixing (and remixing) his catalogue. If you love Daft Punk, you’ll probably dig this.

Fonal label
Very interesting Scandinavian avant-folk label. More on them later this week. Start with Islaja if you just can’t wait.

The Dialect Label
Promising dance label, featuring tunes from Ost and Kjex and Tiger Stripes.

Rune Lindbaek - N-Disko Mix
Some of that gloriously smooth yacht-disco all mixed up and ready for your delectation.

Sunburned Hand of the Man – Fire Escape
New record by these avant folksters, produced by Kieran Hebden (Four Tet). Artwork done by none other than Yamatsuka Eye of the Boredoms, too!

Various Artists – Vexville
Soundtrack to an upcoming anime film that features, among others, DJ Shadow, MIA, Underworld, Carl Craig and Paul Oakenfold.

Peter Brötzmann & Paal Nilssen-Love & Mats Gustafsson - The Fat Is Gone
Free jazz giants live from the Molde Jazzfestival 2006.

Well Believe Digital released a BUNCH of french music, and there’s incredible good stuff there :
    - label Lusafrica, specialized in portuguese language african music, home of Cesaria Evora. I don’t know if she will appear one day on eM, but Akendengue made my day
    - label Chief Inspector, a young jazz label, with some serious experimental stuff. More Atavistic than Fresh Sound New Talents. Check Collectif Slang or La Theorie du Ko, or TTKPC & le Marin for something more classic.
    - label Fargo, for these new/avant folk. They mostly distribute US labels in France, but produce some really good album too, check Emily Loizeau or the compilation Even cowgirls get the blues
    - label DSA (les Disques du Soleil et de l’Acier) french underground music, and home of Pascal Comelade, composer of naive music, with toy instruments.

And there’s a bunch of Magma album (i think all their discs are on emusic now), underground post rock band (Prohibition, Sister Iodine, Ulan Bator to name a few), dub (Zenzile), french song (les Ogres de Barback), underground rap (Assassins)

I’m quite happy to see all that on eMusic :)

The new MIA came in today! I’m really truly surprised to see this on emusic, but I’m thrilled. Arular was fund. Kala is gooooooood. Get it before Interscope notices it’s here.

Erm, no offense but if it was Bob Sinclar you were referring to as “up-and-coming”, you’re way off. The guy’s been producing since the mid 90s, and has had 7 UK top 10 singles since 1998 in addition to a lot of DJ and production work. Wherever he’s up-and-coming to, I think he’s been there for a while!

Seriously though, there’s some great tips there, I missed the Vexville OST for some reason, but wll be downloading it now!

Oops, that should have said top 40 singles, not top 10 (only 4 singles reached the UK top 10)

I think you added an extra V to “Vexille”.

and less than a month later, hydra head is gone. bummer. i was looking forward to them adding more from the catalog, not pulling the few releases they had. sigh.
