na: vanguard, supersilent & fog

Three quick recommendations. Ready. Set. Go.
Vanguard Visionaries Series: There is some impeccable stuff packed on these little best-of collections, with material from Doc Watson, Joan Baez, John Fahey, Junior Wells, Skip James, Buddy Guy, Country Joe, etc. Just some spectacular material from the Vanguard catalogue. My sleeper pick: the wonderful Jim Kweskin.
Supersilent, Supersilent 6: Our own Todd Burns should weigh in on this one, as this is a favorite record of his, so for now I simply direct you to this 9.1 Pitchfork review.
Fog, Ditherer: The new album from Fog… that I’m pretty sure we shouldn’t have. Ahem.

Soft Hearted Scientists, anyone? The first album was one my favourite of last year and on my ipod for a good few months. The new one “Take Time to Wonder in a Whirling World” should be good. Soft, spacey and quirky …
We also got this odd/interesting album from Johnny Chester & Jigsaw. Came out in 1972, and is basically a cash-in record of the times, with tracks sounding like, alternately, Zappa and Conway Twitty. It’s really, really weird. There is a nice cover of McCartney’s “Man We Was Lonely” (always a favorite of mine). LINK
supersilent, man. they are the act that i have used to change so many minds about jazz. and the act i have used to change jazzheads’ minds about ambient and noise. i can’t say enough.
_6_ is probably the best, too.
Hey electronics fans, there’s Perrey and Kingsley in the Vanguard set, including the Disney Electrical Parade song.
