a frames come back!
This is not eMusic-related, but you should know anyway: the A Frames have a new record coming out! It’s called 4 and will be on Sub Pop. Here’s what the band has to say:
A FRAMES’ new recording, “4″, is almost all done. We recorded 12 songs at SOD Studio with Dan Strack of Factums/Fruit Bats fame. Scott S was here co-producing with us. There’s just a few songs to remix, which will be done by the end of June. Not sure when it will come out, but that’s up to Subpop’s schedule I guess. We’re really happy with it, and it was lots of fun having friends come down and contribute. There’s some new appearances and some of the usual suspects are on it, including Climax Golden Twins, Josh Turgeon, Jo Claxton, Laura Cassidy, Wolfgang Acker, Jesse Paul Miller, Matthew Ford and Dan Strack.
If you don’t know the A Frames (shame on you!), they’re poorly described as kinda like Kraftwerk as a really messed-up punk band, real monotone vocals, lots of scrapes and squeals, great rhythms. They’re also one of my absolute favorites. We do have two records by a spin-off band who I also love called the Intelligence that you should download. Start with “Telephone Wires.”
You can also download two A Frames songs from Sub Pop here. There’s also an amazing A Frames demo here. You can also read a really pretentious piece that I wrote (and am still proud of) here.
Finally, there are some select West Coast A Frames dates happening very soon. See em; they iz awsum.

A Frames’ self titled album is probably going to end up my favorite album of the decade. Totally made me rethink what was possible in punk- it’s got all the menace of hardcore and the freeform spirit of post-punk but an underlying pop sense that’s hard to resist.
