Just had to share. Have you seen anything lately that has jumped out at you?

In the age of digital downloads cover art has no real meaning or impact don’t you think? I like this image but I think I need to see it bigger and preferably –feel– it.

Shame really, as music art/design it was the main reason I got into graphic design…

I concur with Mr Bootle, digital downloads have made album art obsolete more or less. Some CD’s are still doing it cool, like I liked Beck’s “The Information” CD with all the stickers, and Decomposure’s “Vertical Lines A” handmade collage-art CD is probably the coolest CD art I’ve seen in years. Btw, Emusic should be getting those albums.

Not exactly new, but Fantomas Suspended Animation art work was a calender illustrated by world famous Japanese painter Yoshitomo Nara.

I agree with the Beck comment above too, at the concert he did the same thing with concert T shirts. You would pick out an iron on kit and could pin them on the shirts they had anywhere and the would iron them on right there using big machines.

I don’t think packaging is totally irrelevant, it just takes a heck of a lot more now for people to notice or care.

Best I’ve seen lately was the Bright Eyes Cassadaga CD. Came with a ‘Spectral Decoder’ so you could view the artwork and stop it looking like white noise.
I actually preferred the packaging to the album :-)

@ Cabin Boy – agree the Beck ‘Information’ art work was good.
@ Bryan, WOW! That’s such a great idea with the Beck t-shirts… I like it!

To be honest, I haven’t been buying many CDs of late. eMusic is my music bugdet at the moment. The last CD I did by that had artwork that made me drool was for Mastodon’s Blood Mountain. Great album btw, for those who like it heavy.
