Thing have gone from slow simmer to steady, incredible boil. Mastodon rebounded from a shaky beginning to deliver a set searing with raw, bleak menace, horrifying serrated riffs cutting up the center of a great, grinding bottom end; it was as terrfifying and inrvitible as the Apocalypse.
But as good as they were, Clipse were even better. The last time i saw them was at an awful NY supper club where no one knew – or cared – who tgey were. This is the exact opposite: the crowd is BANANAS for them, and rightfully so. Pusha and Malice were exhilerating, tearing with fury and fire through classics and new classics. The audience hollered back every word, and at sone point momentum just took over and the show shot through the sky. Pusha and Malice fed off the energy, the sound of thousands of people yelling their lyrics back at them. Right now I can hear the whole crowd yelling “re up! Re up!” to get them back on stage. They were the only act all day to get an encore. And truthfully, they were the only act that deserved one.

Actually, Iron and Wine got an encore too. But you’re right, Clipse was the only artist who deserved one.
