Add another one to the “best summer albums” / “best of 2007″ list. Vampire Weekend has stolen my heart – and it only took them a little bit over nine minutes to do so.

What does Vampire Weekend sound like? Vampire Weekend played most of their formative shows at the Columbia University Literary Society. They have a song named after the Oxford Comma. They use hand drumming on “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa.” Sometime eMusic scribe Mike Powell points towards Orange Juice as a frame of reference, but you’ll also inevitably hear Paul Simon’s Graceland or Peter Gabriel in “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” – and not just because the latter is namechecked in the lyrics. I hear what coulda been for the Walkmen after Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone if they didn’t bother to take themselves so seriously.

In other words, indie pop with a bit of quirk.

Not bad for a band that’s only been around for a bit under two years, eh?
