Valium Aggelein

Everybody has them. That record that you think no one else knows about. During my college radio days, I had an experimental radio show where we would throw on just about anything – vinyl, CDs, old busted up CDs on the turntables, live recordings through complex delay pedals, cassette tapes of previous shows run backwards. One of my secret weapons was the first track from a group I knew absolutely nothing about, but was pretty sure no one else knew anything about either: Valium Aggelein.
One of the goals during the show between my partner and I was to get a nice groove going so that we could overlay all manner of craziness over top. “Hier Kommt Der Schwartze Mond” (“Here Comes the Black Moon”) was the perfect thing to throw on. It was slow-moving, hypnotic and barely went anywhere at all. eMusic user BullDuggins puts it best: “stoner slowcore at its finest.”
Anyway, little did I know that this piece of white vinyl was also making a huge impression on eMusic contributor Mark Richardson. And he wrote about its mysterious origins recently for the site here. Take a look – and take a chance on the title track (at least!). You won’t be disappointed, if you’re looking for, as Richardson puts it: “slow, dreamy space-rock that conjures a palpable headspace.”

I helped marc (aip owner/ founder) package the albums as he was preparing to ship them to distributers. That album has got to be the best damn thing, their already prodigiously writing/recording static cult selves, not to mention, still obscure, they ever put out. I miss duster too for that matter (since devolved into el buzzard and helvetia, what have you). An absolute essential ingredient to my teens/ 20 somethings. If I ever had a date, I would put this on (laughs). Idunno, 90.1 kzsu stanford, had a radio show on there for a minute, and of course, all those records (unleaded, up, aip her space holiday on trainbridge) were played quite often. a fan.
