na: boom bip, meat puppets
A welcome weekend for new arrivals, with a host of standouts.
Boom Bip, Sacchrilege EP: New EP from Cincinnati electronic/hip-hop producer. Lively, bright and fun, very highly recommended. Folks who love M.I.A., Diplo and Girl Talk will adore this.
Meat Puppets, Rise to Your Knees: New Meat Puppets album a full month early. Sad to say I’ve never been a Meat Puppets fan — maybe someone who is can chime in on the qualities of this one.
Bauhaus, 1979-1983 Volumes 1 & 2: Two best-of compilations from the goth figureheads. Joe says that the second volume is not available in the US, so a nice score there.
Moodymann, Black Mahogani: A beautiful and textural electronic-dub album, with some house elements tossed in as well. This has been a favorite of mine that for a couple of years now, so it gets the big thumbs up from me. The AMG review does a nice job of contextualizing it.
The Black Dog, Book of Dogma: Excellent — and extensive — best-of collection from the early ’90s London electronic masters.
Ride, Waves: A collection of every live Ride BBC performance. Predictably, the early stuff is better than the more recent stuff.
Camera Obscura: A nice collection of singles and EPs through Elefant Records.
Ikara Colt, Modern Apprentice: Most recent (and last) album from the UK act previously covered here and here. Kind of a disappointment, though.
Mouse on Mars, Vulvaland: Mouse on Mars’ strong debut record.

if yr downloading from the uk then you’ll have just found out most of these aren’t uk-ok yet! there is the :simian mobile
>:listen
to brighten yr monday though
The black dog thing is kinda a greatest hits, in that everything they released was amazing. but more accurately, book of dogma collects three of their early (late ’80s, early ’90s, I believe) and very out-of-print eps: The Virtual, Age of Slack, and The Black Dog.
and on what, in physical copies, is the second disc, you’ve got the entirety of the Parallel LP released in which was released in 1995. (that starts with the track “parallel,” for those interested.)
I’m a Meat Puppets fan of sorts. And their new record sucks ass. Sorry. No charms to speak of. Just listen to “Meat Puppets II” more, that’s my advice.
OMG… Black Mahogani. Amazing album, I’ve only got it on vinyl and really, really need it on MP3. So, heart racing, I click the link. Aaaargh, not available to UK! Blaaaah. Oh well, must get round to sorting out that vinyl ripping.
For the lucky ones; Runaway, I’m doing fine and Shades of Jae are fantastic slices of Moodymann’s take on detroit tech house. A great, great album.
Can’t believe it… just after I submit the post above about Moodymann’s lack of availability in the UK, I click on the Black Dog’s best of… same thing! I know there’s a whole distribution/legal thang going on here, but jeez you know how to tease!
I also am a fan of the Meat Puppets and I couldn’t disagree more with jm. I love this new record!
