na: apparat!

One stone-cold instant classic (to these ears) from Apparat, and a few others that we’re happy to rep.

Apparat, Walls: Wow this record is incredible. This is the electronic-pop record I have been looking for for ages now: what I hoped the Robyn, Junior Boys and recent Basement Jaxx records would be. “Hailin from the Edge” is a radio-ready single (more Radio 1 than ClearChannel), and “Useless Information” is beautifully substantive ambient, melodramatic and cinematic. But I’d rather not talk about specific songs, as this is a “download all” record if I have ever heard one. Anyone with the slightest interest in electronic music, synth-pop or the quirkier, more electro sides of indie rock needs to snag this. So good.

Otis Jackson Jr. Trio, Jewelz EP: A buddy of mine runs a DJ/rapper/jazz night here in NYC dubbed Future Soul, and that’s exactly what this exclusive Otis Jackson Jr. Trio EP reminds me of. Bubbly jazz-funk-soul fusion, with an awareness of hip-hop. Hot stuff.

Diego, Diego: A more raucous Interpol, but with merely ok songs rather than great ones.

Section 25, Part-Primitiv: New album from the recently canonized post-punk group. Have heard nothing about how this is, and am a bit scared to find out. Anyone want to weigh in?

Apparat is on the “save for later” list. Can’t wait to snag that one.

You’d think that at the highest subscription level, I’d run of things to download. Yet it never happens . . .

I finished a few listens of Apparat, and I’m blown away. I think it’s the best thing I’ve heard so far this year.

The Otis Jackson Jr. Trio is really great – love the hard beats on that.
