talking to ted

This month we launched a new feature at eMusic called ‘Ask the Artist.’ It’s pretty self-explanatory — we asked any user who’d downloaded a Ted Leo record to submit a question for Ted, which we then passed along to him. The answers are back, and are up on the site for you to read.

What makes me most excited about this feature is not only the caliber of questions we received, but also the sincerity and thoughtfulness of Ted’s answers. I’ve admired and respected him for years, and the way he handled this exchange only deepened those sentiments. He addresses not only his own political beliefs, but also talks a bit about how he feels having fans whose opinions differ widely from his own. I’m as big a fan as anybody of light Top 40 bubblegum pop, but it’s heartening every now and then to come across an artist who’s as invested in his work — and his fans — as Leo is. This is one of my favorite recent features on the site.

N.b. the same answer appears to Neil Barbour’s and Ezra Strickhouser’s questions…
