vegetable dance

Last night I went to see some grown men (one with a mustache) dance whilst dressed as spears of asparagus, against a stark graphic backdrop, whilst musicians in evening dress played dark and odd sounds. Just an average night out.
Asparagus: A Horticultural Ballet is a collaboration between art duo The Pil and Galia Kollectiv and Montreal-based band Les Georges Leningrad, taking influences from lost art works and Das Kapital. Despite this somewhat portentous description, it was light, well-executed and not in the slightest bit pretentious (come on, they were dancing asparagus, asparagi, whatever.) And the music was fantastic. Menacing drones, wibbles and refrains from the experimental end of post-punk.
The exhibition of the show runs until April 15th at The Showroom, London, with a talk on the work of Pil and Galia Kollectiv given by Bill Drummond taking place on March 17th.
